Facts about the PROMISE Scholarship:
The PROMISE Scholarship program was approved by the legislature in 1999. It offers each high school student with a 3.0 GPA in the core and overall coursework as well as a composite ACT score of a 21, or a combined SAT of 1000, a full tuition scholarship to state college or university or an equivalent dollar scholarship to an instate private college.
The PROMISE Scholarship is so critical because only 16.3% of West Virginians over the age of 25 have a college degree, which is a hinderance to economic development.
The PROMISE Scholarship is funded by the appropriations from the WV lottery, video lottery and also any other legislature appropriation.
