Curriculum - Grading Scale

Preston High School Grading Scale

The Grading Scale

Grades are based, as nearly as possible, on objective evidence of the student's work and achievement. The following scale will be used to assign letter grades for assignments and report cards.

A = 93 - 100 B= 85 - 92 C = 75 - 84 D = 65 - F = 00 - 64 I = Incomplete

Lowering a scholastic grade cannot be used as a disciplinary measure; however, students caught cheating on an assignment may be given a zero on that assignment.

Incompletes

The following guidelines are to be followed for "Incomplete" grades:

  • An incomplete may be given when a student has not completed the required work within a grading period.
  • Incomplete grades received for a term grade (end of course) must be changed to a passing or failing mark at the end of that term.
  • Students who have been absent for extended periods of time may receive an incomplete until the make-up work is done. The student will have the number of days absent plus one to make up the work.

Profile - History

Preston High School History

Creation of a High School

Preston High School became a reality with the consolidation of Bruceton High, Central Preston High, East Preston High, Preston County Educational Center, Preston County Academic Center, and West Preston High. The school was built on the same campus in Kingwood with the existing vocational school and academic center.

Originally, PHS enrolled just sophomores, juniors, and seniors. In the 1998-99 school year, with the establishment of the middle school concept in Preston County, freshmen joined the student body--making the total enrollment near 1,600 students.

School Honors

Preston High has North Central Accreditation and also became a National Blue Ribbon School in 1996.

Several teachers have won state and national awards for their excellent work in their individual teaching areas.

Many of the students have won awards through their vocational student organizations, academic competitions, sports events, etc.
